Vista Thumbnails Display
If you've set the Control Panel/Performance Information and Tools/Advanced Tools display to 'best performance' instead of 'best appearance', then the thumbnails view will frequently disappear. It's possible to choose 'Best Appearance' or simply CHECK the box next to 'View Thumbnails' in the 'Custom' settings to make the thumbnails reappear. In addition, in the 'Folder Options/View' tab menu, it's important to UNCHECK the box that says: 'Always shows icons, never thumbnails' and to CHECK 'Display file icon on thumbnails'. Hope this helps.
Well, not quite. At least in my Windows Vista SP1, selecting Best Appearance in Performance Options does NOT add a 'thumbnails' option to the View or Views menus, and The Custom options do NOT include a 'View thumbnails' option. In Folder and Search Options, unchecking the box next to 'Always shows icons, never thumbnails' and checking 'Display file icon on thumbnails' does not add a 'thumbnails' option to the Vierw/Views menus either.
