Besame Mucho 6.This One's For Me 7.Fantasy Island 8.The Song Begins The high-flying confidence of Rise and the experimental bent of Beyond began to wear off by 1981, giving way to the more relaxed but musically weaker ministrations of Magic Man. With Michael Stokes, then A&M's director of Black Product/A&R, co-producing, Alpert came up with a pleasant collection of mostly forgettable, mild-mannered R&B/pop-slanted tunes, plus a fairly uneventful rendition-at-length of 'Besame Mucho' and a redundant cha-cha/disco remake of his own 'You Smile, The Song Begins.' Alpert's haunting trumpet still reflects his post-'Rise' sense of command, but he doesn't have much to say this time; the material holds him back.

Earlier on I downloaded a 'Peter Nero' L/P of 'Herb Alpert' hits and said 'If you didn't know it wasn't 'Herb Alpert' you wouldn't know or words to that effect!!!Anyway here is the man himself with 16 of his well known hits.they are all there!!Bit of music trivia coming up.His first hit 'Lonely Bull' was supposed to have been recorded in a garage on an old Tape recorder deck no studio equipment!!whether or not that is true who knows.but I recon that they must have cleaned it up in the studio and that little man that fiddles with the knobs and sliders did his thing!!! Seems that we have had another ride on that 'DeLorean'.from the 40's to the 70's with this one!!! Lonely Bull 2. Spanish Flea 3. So Whats New 4.

A bunch of the hottest LA studio musicians were asked to record the album as a favor to a record big shot who didn't want to take a chance on Herb and his style of music. It was a scab (non-union) date, and paid each musician probably $15. The single 'Spanish Flea' gets released, it goes to No.
1, and so Herb goes to the union, admits to the scab date, pays the union a fine, and then pays each musician scale for the date (which he didn't have to do). Forever after that, no matter what musicians Herb toured with, he always had the same collection of LA studio guys (known as The Wrecking Crew) playing on all his albums. Leicester, Leicestershire, United Kingdom Retired from the 'Rat Race' called work and am taking it easy holidaying and just chillin' out. Hence this blog but cant for the life of me think of much else to say except love music the older the better 20's to 80's where great. This blog is to share some of my favourite L/P,s and will be highlighting the very special tracks of well known song's that are very different from the originals.
